High Wind Watch
Issued by the National Weather Service at 2:55 am PST on March 12, 2010

... High wind watch in effect from Saturday morning through
Saturday evening...

The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a high wind
watch... which is in effect from Saturday morning through Saturday
evening for the Kern County mountains and the southeastern Kern
County desert.

A strong cold front will move through the central California
interior tonight and Saturday morning. Behind the front... gusty
west to northwest winds will develop and continue through
Saturday afternoon into the evening hours.

* Winds: west to northwest winds will increase to 30 to 45
mph... with gusts to around 65 mph. The strongest winds will be
from below the Tehachapi Pass south to around Mojave.

* Timing: winds will increase by midday Saturday and continue
through the afternoon before diminishing by late Saturday
evening.

* Locations include: Tehachapi... Lake Isabella... Rosamond...
California City... Edwards AFB... Mojave.

* Impacts: gusty winds will make driving difficult at
times... especially for high profile vehicles. Major roads that
will be affected by the winds include Interstate 5 and highways
14... 58 and 178. In addition... the winds may create areas of
blowing dust and sand with reduced visibilities.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph or gusts of
58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest
forecasts.
