Tonight...Windy. Snow and rain in the evening...then scattered snow showers after midnight. Snow accumulation of 2 to 6 inches...with 6 to 12 inches above 7000 feet. Lows 8 to 18. Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Ridge gusts up to 90 mph.

Saturday...Mostly cloudy with isolated snow showers in the morning...then partly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs 34 to 44. West winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph shifting to the northeast 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Ridge gusts up to 50 mph in the morning.

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 1 PM this
afternoon to 4 am PST Saturday...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow remains in
effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 4 am PST Saturday.

* Timing: snow and rain will increase this afternoon... changing to
all snow this evening. A period of heavy snow is most likely
to impact the higher passes after 1 PM this afternoon... then
extend into the Lake Tahoe basin between 5 and 10 PM this
evening.

* Snow accumulations: 3 to 6 inches with locally up to 8 inches at
lake level... 8 to 14 inches above 7000 feet.

* Snow levels: 6500 feet this afternoon... then dropping to lake
level by early this evening.

* Winds: southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph.
Ridge gusts up to 100 mph.

* Impacts: travel over the Sierra and around the Lake Tahoe area
including Interstate 80 and Highway 50 will be affected by this
storm. Motorists should prepare for slick Road conditions.
Chain and snow tire requirements are likely. Snow and blowing
snow will limit visibility to below one half mile at times.

... Lake Wind Advisory in effect until 1 PM PST this afternoon for
Lake Tahoe...

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a lake Wind
Advisory for Lake Tahoe... which is in effect until 1 PM PST this
afternoon.

* Winds: southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph.

* Wave heights: 2 to 3 feet increasing to 3 to 4 feet in the
afternoon.

* Small boats will be prone to capsizing and should remain off
lake waters until conditions improve.
