Winter Storm Watch
Issued by the National Weather Service at 2:30 am PST on March 11, 2010


... Winter Storm Watch in effect from Friday afternoon through
late Friday night above 6000 feet...

The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a Winter Storm
Watch above 6000 feet for heavy snow and gusty winds... which is
in effect from Friday afternoon through late Friday night for the
southern Sierra Nevada from Yosemite National Park south through
Sequoia National Park.

The next Pacific storm will move into central California by midday
Friday... with rain and mountain snow spreading south through the
afternoon into Friday evening.

* Snow accumulations: a storm total of up to 13 inches of new snow
will be possible above 7000 feet at Yosemite National
Park... with up to 8 inches possible above 6000 feet. Snow will
taper off to the south... but up to 8 inches of new snow will be
possible above 7000 feet in Sequoia National Park.

* Elevation: above 6000 feet.

* Timing: the heaviest snow will fall Friday night... tapering off
Saturday morning. A few residual snow showers will be possible
Saturday afternoon.

* Locations include: Yosemite National Park... Kings Canyon
National Park... Sequoia National Park including Lodgepole.

* Winds: southwest winds up to 30 mph may cause areas of blowing
and drifting snow.

* Impacts: roads above 6000 feet will become hazardous at times.
Be prepared for winter driving conditions.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow and strong winds that may impact travel. Continue to monitor
the latest forecasts.
